Service Description

The Course - This course takes place in a rural workshop in North Herefordshire and spans over twelve days with ten teaching sessions, a field trip and a day of rest. It is limited to four students and gives you the opportunity to learn with three different professional tutors, visit a willow bed and a professional basket making workshop. You would spend 6 days with me, two days with Sarah Loughlin creator of Hopewood Baskets and two days with Mary Lewis director of Heritage crafts. Aim - Six of the teaching days are with me and by limiting the numbers to four students you will each be able to pursue your own projects. The idea is that you will have time and space to focus on whatever you want to improve on or try out. This could be basic workshop practise, for example sharping tools, or trying to fathom the art of rope handles. The choice is yours. By limiting the numbers I aim able to teach not just method but a deeper empathy with material, process and form. Your time spent with Sarah and Mary will be a prescribed project and chance to experience different approaches to the art of working with willow. Schedule 11-13th October : Personal development with Jenny Crisp 14-15th October : Making a curved sided storage basket with Sarah Loughlin 16th October : Field trip to the Willow with Roots willow bed. 17th October : Day of rest - with independent access to the workshop 18-19th October: Making an oval frame basket with Mary Lewis 20-22nd October: Personal development with Jenny Crisp.
